Wayne County Council for Arts, History, and the Humanities benefits Wayne County in numerous ways.

Representation Benefit
As a body created and funded by Wayne County, WCCAHH as an extension of the Wayne County Government creates cultural opportunities for the 2.1 million constituents of Wayne County, while also representing over 750 local, grassroots arts, history, and humanities organization working to make Wayne County a better place to live.

Public Awareness Benefit
WCCAHH broadens public awareness of the many diverse programs and activities of arts, history and humanities organizations, generating collaboration and partnership between these organizations, corporations, and government agencies in the 43 communities within Wayne County. WCCAHH has an 'amplifier effect' reaching more people than individual organizations may do alone.

New Audienes and Quality of Life Benefit
Increasing the visibility of arts and cultural issues in Wayne County through advocacy, building national attention and appreciation for activity which occurrs in the county, by placing art in public places, and by supporting county-wide youth and educational activities. Taken together, this helps to create new audiences for the arts, history and humanities which in turn greatly enhances the quality of life in the county.

Economic Development Benefit
Economic development is generated by having a strong arts presence. Numerous studies have suggested that arts and cultural activity genenrates significance commercial and economic activity both directly and indirectly - whether this is people visiting a restaurant before or after a concert, traveling to see an exhibit or show and choosing to stay the night in an area hotel, etc. Arts and culture have the ability to improve the quality of life, which in turn helps to attract residential and commercial development, as well as increased tourism.


Current Programs

Artists Among Us
The Artists Among Us (AAU) Competition & Exhibition sponsored by Wayne County Council for Arts, History, & Humanities (WCCAHH) brings artists, poets, and musicians together in a diverse competition. Visual artists submit slides of their original artwork, literary artists submit original writing samples, and musical artists submit original audio samples to be juried by well-known authorities in each discipline.

Wayne County Recognition Awards
The WCCAHH presents the Recognition Awards to honor outstanding cultural programs, institutions and those who support and participate in them with this annual celebration of diversity and dedication to arts, history and humanities in Wayne County. View more...
